The Seventh Meeting of the Conference of Ministers of the Lake Tanganyika Authority (LTA), 29th July 2016, Kinshasa, DR Congo
The Seventh Meeting of the Conference of Ministers of the Lake Tanganyika Authority (LTA) was held on July 29, 2016 in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo in 2016.
The following attended the meeting:
H.E. NIYONKURU Emmanuel, Minister of Water, Environment, Territory and Urban Planning, Republic of Burundi;
H.E. Prof. Emile Christophe MOTA NDONGO, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock, DR Congo;
Hon. January Y. MAKAMBA, (MP), Minister of State (Union & Environment), Vice President Office, United of Republic of Tanzania;
H.E. Fedelis M.C. KAPOKA, Ambassador of the Republic of Zambia in DR Congo, Republic of Zambia;
Members of the Management Committee of the Contracting States of the Lake Tanganyika Authority (LTA) ;
Members of the LTA staff ; and
The Representatives of FAO and The Nature Conservancy (TNC).
In a Joint Declaration, the Ministers reiterated their firm commitment to support the activities of the programs and projects implemented at national and regional levels by the Lake Tanganyika Authority in collaboration with countries and partners Part. They further expressed their support to launch a national, regional and international fundraising campaign to convince Member States and international funding agencies to continue the efforts made by the Lake Tanganyika Authority to conserve and manage the natural resources in Lake Tanganyika and its Basin. They also called upon all the Contracting Parties to expedite remittance of full national contributions to the Lake Tanganyika Authority in accordance with the resolution of the Second Conference of Ministers meeting held in April 2008 whereby the Contracting Countries committed themselves to regularly pay their annual contributions.
The meeting ended with the handing-over ceremony of the chairmanship of the Conference of Ministers between the Congolese Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock and the Burundian Minister of Water, Environment, Territory and Urban Planning.
