The payment of environmental services is a new concept that is not yet well understood in most countries, including those located in the Lake Tanganyika basin. That is in this context that the Lake Tanganyika Authority (LTA) Secretariat organized a training session on Payment of Environmental Services. The training took place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from 15 to 19 December 2014.
The training falls in the line with the capacity building sessions of the Lake Tanganyika riparian countries that the LTA Secretariat has started since 2010 by training experts in various domains such as transboundary water management, solid waste management and the management of the water and climate change.
This special session had been an opportunity for participants to discuss on the services provided by ecosystems in general and focus on the specific case of Lake Tanganyika. Trainers from our region who know Lake Tanganyika were selected to facilitate the training.
