The Lake Tanganyika Authority (LTA) is an intergovernmental organization for the riparian countries of Lake Tanganyika namely Burundi, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia. The main function of the LTA is to coordinate the implementation of the Convention on the Sustainable Management of Lake Tanganyika signed between the Contracting States, to promote and represent the common interests of the Member States in the management of Lake Tanganyika and its basin.
The LTA has three bodies, namely the Conference of Ministers (CoM), the Management Committee (MC) and the Secretariat. During the meetings of both the CoM and the MC, the importance of and the need for inclusion of permanent secretaries or their equivalent in the statutory bodies of the LTA has been raised.
It is for this reason that the LTA is calling for the recruitment of a consultant to analyze the possibility of including permanent secretaries or their equivalent in the statutory bodies of the LTA.
