The Lake Tanganyika Authority Secretariat (LTAS), a Regional Intergovernmental Organization composed of Republic of Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, United Republic of Tanzania, and Republic of Zambia, hereby informs the public that it is launching a call for tenders to recruit a consultant/firm to carry out a feasibility study for the construction of a water level regulation dam on Lake Tanganyika at the junction with the Lukuga River.

In 2024, the spectacular rise in water levels of the Lake Tanganyika caused significant material damage and loss of human life in the riparian areas. In response to this alarming situation, an extraordinary meeting of the LTA Conference of Ministers was held on 3rd October 2024.

Following the discussions, the implementation of this feasibility study was identified as an urgent priority, hence the launch of this call for tenders.

The general objective is to assess the overall feasibility of constructing a regulating dam at the junction of Lake Tanganyika and the Lukuga River.
